What is the age limit for importing a car to Namibia?

Twelve years or newer from the year of manufacture. The oldest model year allowed is calculated on this page, so it moves with the calendar rather than sitting at a fixed year.

Can I import a left-hand drive car to Namibia?

No. Right-hand drive only, with an exception for diplomats.

How long does shipping take?

Approximately 5 to 8 weeks from Japan to Walvis Bay.

Do I need an import permit?

Yes, before shipping. Vehicles without a valid permit are not accepted at the port. We can guide you through the application.

What documents do I need for customs clearance?

Bill of lading, commercial invoice, export certificate, import permit, customs declaration (CA304A) and ID.

Can I sell the car immediately after importing?

No. The vehicle cannot be resold for 24 months after import.

What taxes will I pay when importing a car to Namibia?

Customs duty at 27% of the vehicle value, 15% VAT on the CIF value plus duty, and port and clearing charges.

Can I import a car on a work permit?

No. A residence permit is required to import a vehicle.
